Natural Care

1. To keep clothes from freezing on the

line on chilly days, add a handful of salt to

the final rinse.

2. For the whitest socks: Boil white socks

in a large pan with a slice of lemon.

3. For bright soft clothes, don’t buy expensive

products; 1/4 cup of white distilled

vinegar to the wash and 1/4 cup to the final

rinse will eliminate the need for bleach and

fabric softeners. (Borax works great, also!)

Line dry - the sun brightens your clothes!

4. Scouring powder:

1 cup baking soda

1/4 c. Borax (Borax isn’t recognized by the

FDA but has long been known to be a disinfectant).

Put it in a shaker, and use as you

would comet or Ajax.

5. Air freshener:

1 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. lemon juice

2 cups hot tap water

Dissolve well in the hot water. Place in a

spray bottle and use as you would any airfreshener.

6. Window Cleaner:

1 tbsp. vinegar

1 quart water

Put in a spray bottle and mix well. Use a

lint free rag or newspaper to wipe windows.

7. Window cleaning tip:

When washing windows, use up and down

motion on inside, and side to side motion on

the outside. That way you’ll know which side

the streak is on.

8. Furniture Polish:

1/8 c. vegetable oil or olive oil

1/8 c. lemon juice

Place in a glass jar - mix well - place small

amount on lint free rag and use as any furniture

polish.

9. Oven cleaner:

Set oven on warm for 20 minutes, then

turn off. Place a small dish of full strength

ammonia on the top shelf. Put a large pan of

boiling water on the bottom shelf, and let sit

over night. Open oven and let air. Wash off

with soap and water.

10. Shiny glass while washing dishes:

Add a few tablespoons of lemon juice to

dishwater with dish soap.

11. Grease cutter:

Add a few tablespoons of white distilled

vinegar to dishwater with dish soap.

12. Toothpaste:

Equal parts of baking soda and salt. Add

cinnamon oil for flavor.

13. Astringent:

Equal parts witch hazel and water.

14. Unwrap bars of soap, place in drawers

or closets, for air freshener. Leave soap

unwrapped for a few months before using, the

soap will harden and last much longer.

Thoughts from Darla on being old-fashioned:

I buy my children’s clothes secondhand,

and we make toys out of things we

might ordinarily throw away. I am a real “at

home” mom, as my husband takes the car to

work. He is the head of our household and I

love and respect him and am very happy with

my position as a Christian woman in every

way. In a day when women fight for position

and recognition, I have learned that God

places us in our positions and will give us

enough grace to go through each day with joy.

We need to recognize the place we are in and

pray for His grace to hold us there. In Christ

there is no struggle - in His presence only

fullness of joy!
