TULIP

Total Depravity

Man’s natural state is a state of “total depravity” affected by the Fall, therefore has a total inability on the part of man to gain or contribute to his own salvation because sin extends to the whole of the faculties – the will, the understanding, the affection, etc. . .

Man, by nature, is . .

Be Subject To The Law Of God:

Rom 8:7

“Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.” (Job 14:4)

“Can the Ethopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may we also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.” (Jer 13:23)

“ . . . . . . . .Rom 3:20-23)

Unconditional Election

By God’s decree, He saves from corruption and damnation those whom He has chosen from the foundation of the world, not for any disposition, faith, or holiness that He foresaw in them, but of His mere mercy in Christ Jesus His Son, passing by all that rest, according to the irreprehensible reason of His own free-will and justice.”

  1. God’s foreknowledge is spoken of in a connection with a people and not in a connection with any action which people perform.

Rom 8:29-30

Rom 9:11-16

  1. We are not chosen because we perform such a holy work as “accepting” Christ but we are chosen so that we might be able to “accept” Him.

Eph 1:4-5

Eph 15:16

Rom 11:7

  1. Election is not on account of our believing, but our believing is on account of being elected- “ordainted to eternal life.”

Acts 13:48

John 15:16

John 10:25-27

  1. Where did we get the faith to excerise?

Eph 2:8

Tit 3:3-5

“ . . . . . . Rom 9:11-16

Limited Atonement

A full, perfect and satisfactory “atonement” was still required for the sins of the elect, so that God might be, not only a Saviour, but a just God, and a Saviour. Christ bore punishment and procured salvation.

Whose punishment did He bear, and whose salvation did He procure?

  1. All men
  2. No one in particular
  3. A certain number

“I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen.” (John 13:18)

“Jesus Christ gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people.” (Tit 2:14

“For this is my blood of the new testament which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” (Matt 26:28)

“. . . thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matt 1:21)

“ . . . . . . Rom 4:25-5:1-9

Irresistible Grace

For a work of salvation to be wrought, the outward call must be accompanied by the inward call of God’s Holy Spirit, for He it is who “convinces of sin, and righteousness, and judgment.” Thtat call is the manifestation of God’s irresistible grace.

  1. John 6:37 – All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
  2. John 6:44 – No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him.
  3. John 6:45 – Every man, therefore, that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father cometh unto me.
  4. Rom 8:14 – For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
  5. Gal 1:15 – But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace.
  6. 1 Pet 2:9 – But ye are a chosen generation . . . a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
  7. 1 Pet 5:10 – But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus.

“. . . . . Rom 5:15-21

Perseverance of the Saints

The believers hallmark is in that of belonging to Christ; that he is persevering in the things of Christ; that he is ‘giving all diligence to make his calling and election sure.’

Phil 1:6 – He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.

1 Thess 1:-34 – Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father; Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

Rom 8:1 – There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Having ordained to save, died to save, and called to salvation those who would never save themselves, He will also preserve those saved ones unto eternal life to the glory of His Name.

Pro 2:8 – He preserveth the way of his saints.

John 6;39 – All which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

John 10:28 – I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Psa 31:23 – O love the Lord, all ye his saints; for the Lord preserveth the faithful.

Psa 37:28 – For the Lord forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever.

“ . . . . . . Rom 8:27-39
